Anointing of the Sick

ANOINTING OF THE SICK
Those who are seriously sick or who have been ill for a long period should receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick and Holy Communion.

**IF YOU HAVE AN URGENT NEED FOR A PRIEST**
If you would like to have a person in danger of death to be anointed, please call the parish office at Saints Simon and Jude at 610-866-5582.

What is Anointing of the Sick?

James 5:14 says: “Is anyone among you sick?  He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.”

Anointing of the Sick should be performed before death is imminent, when a person is conscious and able to receive comfort from the sacrament.  Anointing may take place when a person first receives a serious diagnosis and repeated as an illness progresses.

It is also appropriate to anoint the elderly to strengthen them as they experience the hardships that come with advancing years.

VISITATION OF THE  SICK

If you are homebound due to injury, advanced age, convalescence or illness, or other circumstances, parishioners are visited once a month for Communion and will perform an Anointing upon request.
